DLBP US Progresses at Pace With Strategic Site Searches and Visits

The DLBP US team has recently undertaken several strategic site searches and follow-up site visits across the 21-county Atlanta Metropolitan.  This has included sites in Cobb County (Powder Springs), Forsyth County (Cumming), Hall County (Gainesville), Cherokee County (Canton, Holly Springs, and Woodstock), and Floyd County (Rome).

DLBP is diligent in following best practices throughout the strategic site search, planning, and rezoning processes. Throughout these often-complex processes, one of the most important tools at our disposal is the site visit.

Site visits play a vital role in urban planning and strategic site searches by offering invaluable insights on the ground that cannot be obtained through desktop analysis alone.  They allow us, as planners, to evaluate the qualities of a site to ensure a proposed development will harmonize with the existing environment.  At DLBP, we seek to identify the aesthetic qualities of places as well as environmental opportunities and constraints, such as topography, drainage, waterways, and potential hazards.  This, in turn, helps us ensure that new proposals maximise the potential of sites, whilst integrating with the surrounding area.

Site visits also provide an opportunity to immerse oneself in the local context and allow us an opportunity to better understand a neighborhood's dynamics, culture, and unique characteristics that are unlikely to be evident from data alone.  It is this first-hand knowledge that helps us devise and propose projects that are well-suited to the specific needs and preferences of the host community.

In the realm of planning, site visits are an indispensable tool for success.  They empower planners to assess site conditions, identify opportunities and constraints, understand the local context, and validate data.  By integrating our on-site experiences into the decision-making processes, we are able to create sustainable, community-oriented projects that enhance people’s quality of life and contribute to the future growth of communities.

If you are interested in developing sites within the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, contact our Director of Planning, Artagus Newell, on +1 (678) 378-2737 or at artagusnewell@dlbp.us, to discuss how DLBP may be able to assist.
